Tremors AKA Translucent Tremors

Hello all! Being a breeder means I run into a lot of funny things. Sometimes you have to be careful about what you say, because others are watching and hoping for anything they can use to slander and tear you down. In this reptile community, one thing we truly need, is more communication and openness! So i’m going to do my best to use this blog to do that.

This condition is best described to resemble parkinsons disease. Dragons typically are not old! But their head shakes uncontrollable like a vibrating tremor. It just looks uncomfortable! I do have a video but not sure I can attach that to a blog.

I want to talk about this “translucent syndrome” openly. I originally started to see this in my beloved dragon, Titus, when he was about 2 years old. He was completely healthy otherwise. He loves to eat, has proper uvb and such. So I went to Google because what else do you do? The first thing I came up with was possibly too much OR too little calcium that could cause this. I knew for a fact it wasn’t mbd but I thought maybe he wasn’t getting the right amount of calcium for him because each dragon is unique! I started off by reducing calcium for a month with no change. I then increased it for a month with no change.

I recently posted Titus to find him a pet only home and my wonderful friend Wendy will be taking him. I’ve order him a supplement to send with him which is called serrapeptase and you can read more about it or purchase it here:

I’ll update once I see how it works! A lovely person on Facebook suggested it to me and the name “translucent syndrome” and I hope to hear more of what she’s learned soon!

I have now talked to 3 other people who have noted this in their dragons! All of them carry the translucent gene. One died prematurely, but it’s hard to say if that’s related. Most live normal lives but can tend to have trouble maintaining control and just seem overall uncomfortable. Currently we are talking behind the scenes to learn more!

The questions I have are 1. Does it hurt them? 2. Can they continue to live a normal(ish) life? 3. Is this related to the translucent gene in all dragons or a specific line that could be stopped that has a defect in the gene? 4. Is this from someone who bred trans to trans and hid that, and then distributed the dragons amongst breeders and we could never know because they lied?

There is a TON to uncover but I will update you as I learn.

Titus is doing well, he loves to eat and be held. His tremors actually calm down when I hold him close and he doesn’t do it in his sleep. If you have more information, or a story to tell, please email me! And please let me know if you dragon is translucent or even het or neither! Bourboncityexotics@gmail.com
